Legal protection for the families of martyrs according to Libyan law

Published: 2025-07-24

Abstract

Libyan laws pay special attention to the legal protection of martyrs' families, recognizing their sacrifices. These laws guarantee a range of rights and benefits for members of these families, including material and moral support to ensure a decent life for them after the loss of their breadwinner. A significant part of this protection is the provision of regular monthly pensions to the widows, children, and parents of martyrs, in addition to providing them with comprehensive, free healthcare. They also give them priority in educational and employment opportunities, and allocate them quotas in social housing, with the aim of reintegrating them into society and empowering them economically. These measures aim to ease the burden on them and in appreciation of their children's sacrifices for the nation, emphasizing that the state bears the responsibility of caring for these families and guaranteeing their rights. Legislation seeks to simplify administrative procedures to facilitate their access to these benefits.
