Translating the Word “Divorce” as Mentioned in the Holy Quran into French “The Effect of Accuracy in Choosing the Term to Express Its Legal Meaning”
Abstract
This research aims to clarify the translation of the word “divorce” as mentioned in the Holy Quran into French. The term is sometimes translated as “la répudiation,” while at other times, it appears as “le divorce.” It is important to note that both translations are derived from Latin, and each carries its own meaning. Additionally, the concept of divorce has a unique interpretation within Islamic law.
After investigating the meanings of these two French terms in relation to Islamic law, the researcher concluded that the more accurate term to convey the intended meaning in Islamic law is “divorce” rather than “répudiation.” Thus, “divorce” is the preferred choice for expressing the relevant legal concept.
